Save the ancients
Why we need to protect old-growth forests
North Americans get the gold medal for largest paper product users in the world. We come in number two for other wood consumption, like furniture and building materials. In the Pacific Northwest, 95 percent of ancient forests are gone and the remaining still end up in these common products.
Although, environmental advocacy has helped shift towards recyclables and renewables, virgin trees still end up in almost all the paper and wood products Americans buy… Collectively, though, we can take simple steps to stop deforestation and protect the last virgins forests.
